長期以來，周恩來都被視作極其複雜難解的歷史人物。中國近代史、中美關係史、國際冷戰史專家陳兼，傾二十年之力，廣泛搜集中、美、蘇、英、日等多國珍貴檔案，以前所未有的史料規模與密度，搭建起一部「里程碑式」的學術傳記，呈現周恩來充滿傳奇與悖論的一生。
